Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (“WEEE”)
EA Producer Ref. WEE/BB4449YX
Companies who manufacture, import or rebrand electrical or electronic goods into the UK market must comply with the UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations. WEEE regulations are there to encourage companies to assume responsibility for reducing the environmental impact of products at the end of their lives.
The directive states that as a retailer we are responsible for increasing the amount of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic equipment) that is recycled in the UK by assisting in the development of dedicated WEEE collection facilities. As a supplier, our obligations cover the collection, treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal costs of WEEE. We take our role as a responsible retailer very seriously, that is why we are supporting the new WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive from the government and doing our bit to help care for the environment.
To support this directive, we offer a free take-back service for any old equipment on a like-for-like basis e.g. you can return old equipment to us when you buy new equipment, and we will not charge you to recycle that equipment. All the equipment we collect is then sent to be recycled. Alternatively, many recycling centres now offer WEEE collection bins from which your old equipment will be recyled.
Waste electrical and electronic equipment is the fastest growing waste stream in the UK, increasing by 5% every year. In 1 year in the UK we produce enough waste electrical and electronic equipment to fill Wembley Stadium 6 times. Our aim is to reduce the amount of electrical waste that ends up in landfill and in turn help to protect the environment from further damage; together we can make a difference!
To remind customers of the collection and recycling services available, all electrical items sold will now carry the following symbol:
