Connection to breadboard
Hi guys. Looking at purchasing this connector so I can run a arcade button to my breadboard/gpio. Is it just a straight jumper wire needed from the quick connect to the breadboard? Thanks.
Jay
  • If you can solder/have a soldering iron I would probably snip the JST connector off the quick-connect wires, and solder the "male" end of a jumper wire to it, this will then let you easily plug the button into a breadboard. Alternativley solder a "female" end to connect directly to the Pi's GPIO (might not be a good idea, depending how you are using the button)

If you dont want to go down the solder route, then a male to male jumper wire will do the trick to connect the JST end of the quick-connect wire to a breadboard (male end just pushes into the JST connector), again, using a female to male jumper wire would let you connect directly to the GPIO pin (not advised)

We have a range of jumper wires that will work - https://www.modmypi.com/electronics/jumper-wires

Hope that all makes sense! For further help on connecting buttons up etc, please head over to our forums :) - https://forum.modmypi.com/ - where our technical team will be able to further assist.

  • OK thanks. What's the best method to wire a arcade button to a gpio / breadboard? Do you guys sell a specific connector for this? I'm housing my raspberry music player in a box and replacing the existing small push buttons probably with your sanwa arcade buttons. Thanks.

  • The quick connect is terminated with a JST header, which, whilst isn't designed to be used with either a jump wire or a breadboard, a jumper wire does fit quite nicely in it.

Quick connector wire sets will make wiring up our arcade-style or metal waterproof buttons super easy and unbelievably quick. Each wire comes as a 'pair' with two 0.11" quick-connects pre-crimped onto 20cm long wires. The wires are then terminated together in a JST 2.5mm/0.1" spaced 2-pin connector (perfectly fits a 0.1" header). Of course you can cut this off if you don't have use for it.

We also stock matching 2-pin JST headers!
