Is it now discontinued?
I still have 3 older Raspberry, which I'd like to power over ethernet. I already used this in several occasions. Will You make it available again or is it now definitively discontinued?
Andrea
  • We have more stock coming in, and I doubt it'll be discontinued for a little while, as like you said, the new PoE HAT is only compatible with the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+

What are the small plastics with N°102 for?
In the packaging of the PoE Hat for the Raspberry there were two small pieces of plastic in a frame. Both of them carried the number 102 on them. What are they supposed to be?
Andrea Vitali
  • They are surface mount resistors. They can be soldered to the underside of the HAT to enable the ethernet jack lights, you can then control them via the GPIO

Does this supply enough power?
The normal wall wart power supplies seem to be 2.5 Amps at around 5 volts, or 12-13 watts. The POE only seems to be half this. A bit concerned it won't actually power a Pi...
Matt
  • Yes, it does provide enough juice to power the Raspberry Pi (actual requirement is 400mA ~ 900mA), The extra recommended current headroom (up to 2.5A)  is to allow for high draw peripheral devices via USB like Hard-drives which themselves can draw 500mA+. So, as long as you're just running a Pi and maybe a couple of low power USB devices it's more than enough - if you have multiple high power draw devices connected via USB then it may not be enough.

Auto-on on POE Power
Hi, I use this shield to power a domotics controller made on an RPI3. The power supply works great, but whenever I have a power failure, Raspi won't auto-boot on power restore, as you have to manually start it using the pushbutton. Any ideas how I could mod the board in order to achieve "boot on power restore" ?

  • Includes optional jumper that toggles the power functionality

    • If you keep the jumper on, your Pi PoE will power on after holding the power button for two seconds
    • If you take the jumper off, your Pi PoE will power on as soon as you apply power from your injector

  • The design engineer says it should work without a problem, however this has been un-tested.
