Powersave and hidden ssid information
Hello, Not so much a question but information I've worked out with Raspbian Stretch to get power save off. I configured initially with the network option of 'raspi-config', but I have a hidden network, so then in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf you need to add 'scan_ssid=1' to the 'network', i.e: network={ ssid="*********" scan_ssid=1 psk="*********" } where clearly I've commented out the other information. I followed: but found that it disables the ethernet port, which could come in handy if things fail for a direct connection. And in Rasbian Stretch there is a 'source-directory' line, so you need to add an 'auto eth0' as well to ensure that the ethernet port is on. Thus you'll have something like: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) # Please note that this file is written to be used with dhcpcd # For static IP, consult /etc/dhcpcd.conf and 'man dhcpcd.conf' # Include files from /etc/network/interfaces.d: source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto wlan0 allow-hotplug wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf wireless-power off iface default inet dhcp in /etc/network/interfaces. Then reboot and double check with the iwconfig and ifconfig commands. I hope this helps. Gareth

The official raspberry pi wifi dongle is here! The RPi Foundation claim: "In our tests, this dongle has performed significantly better than many others on the market, with stronger WiFi reception and better reliability."

This tiny wireless adapter is easy to use and easy to set up. If you are tired of dealing with all those messy wires to connect your Raspberry Pi to your network then this is the item you need. It's also got the Raspberry Pi Foundation's logo embossed!

It also works as a wireless access point, handy for configuring your Pi on the go.

(Please note that you may need drivers for other operating systems)
