Can you tell me which chipset this enclosure uses? I have a problem with my current enclosures where the drive always spins down after 3 minutes, despite my changing the settings. If you tell me which chipset I can then google it and check. TIA

Cable to connect it to the Pi
Hi, does this come with a cable to connect the enclosure to the Pi? If not, what kind of cable does it need? It's not really clear from the picture

  • It does indeed come with the required cable to connect to a Pi. The cable is USB-A to USB-A.

The Dynamode 2.5" External SATA to USB Enclosure has been tested for compatibility on the Raspberry Pi! The device is compatible with SATA drives, and converts the signal to USB, so it's a great solution to cheap Raspberry Pi storage if you have a spare or old hard drive that you want to connect via USB! Please Note. This is a hard drive caddy/enclosure, a hard drive is NOT included.
For best results, we recommend that you connect any hard drives via a USB Hub, which will ensure the stability of your system. Setup is simple and straightforward; simply connect the single USB cable to a spare USB port and follow our short tutorial on how to install an external hard drive on the Raspberry Pi. The drive is powered from the USB cable, we've tested it with the Raspberry Pi on both Raspian and XBMC, and had no problems at all!
