Red for video? Not yellow?
Is this down to the way the Pi does its output? I’ve heard there’s a difference in how the pins are wired compared to other devices.

PAL TV Compatibility.
Hi, I have a Grundig PAL CRT TV, that only accepts 50 Hertz vertical / 15 kHz horizontal refresh rate, 288p / 576i, PAL signals via composite. It accepts 60 Hertz signals via Scart (I ran a Japanese Sega Saturn on it). I wanted a RGB SCART solution to circumvent the problems with NTSC colour space, but its difficult to get a case that protects the expansion boards. Will I be able to force NTSC only consoles like NEO GEO or PC-Engine into PAL colour space? Will this work with my TV? Will Homecomputers (Amiga, ZX-Spectrum, C64...) and handheld systems (Gameboy, Game Gear, Lynx...) display correctly? Thanks in advance, Julius

Got a TV with no HDMI input, but still want to hack your Raspberry Pi? Don't worry! The Raspberry Pi Model B+/2/3 come equipped with a neat 4-Way Composite Video/Audio Jack, and we've got just the cable for you!

Plug this cable into your Raspberry Pi's composite 3.5mm Jack, and your Pi will output Video (1-line) and Audio (2-lines) via the three RCA connectors.

Helpful Tips

  • On first startup (when installing an OS via the NOOBs distribution), hold 3 at boot for PAL, or 4 at boot for NTSC. This will force output via composite insted of HDMI .
  • If you have installed an operating system with an HDMI cable, and want to change to composite hold SHIFT+3 at boot for PAL, or SHIFT+4 at boot for NTSC

Connector Layout

  • Red - Video
  • Yellow -  Right Audio
  • Black - Left Audio

Features:

  • Tested for Compatibility with the Raspberry Pi
  • Gold Plated Connectors
  • 3m Long
  • Colour: Black
  • Connector Type A: 4-Way 3.5mm Audio Jack
  • Connector Type B: 3 x RCA Connectors
