Can other GPIO connected devices be used with this?
I would like to use the UPS together with a motion detection PIR. Is it possible to connect other device to the GPIO pins with this mounted on the PI?
CHRISTOPHER SIMPSON
  • Yes, however you must not connect anything to GPIO27 or GPIO22 as the PIco uses these.

Can i use this with LCD screen ?
Can i use this device with an lcd screen plugged on the top pins ? I'm new in raspberry Pi
JRS
  • The PIco uses GPIO_GEN27 and GPIO_GEN22 so as long as the LCD screen doesn't use these pins as well then it should work fine.

Is any soldering required
Is the product pre-soldered (except the included buzzer) or is some soldering required?
Louis P
  • No soldering is required to get the basic functionality working.

    Soldering IS required for:

    - Buzzer
    - Gold Reset Pin (used to force a reboot of the Pi)

Resume after halt
After a power loss, a script runs to turn off raspberry. When power up again, does it resume from power and start again?
Nicola
  • Yes, once the Pi has shutdown, and the PIco has disconnected the power. If mains power is then restored, the Pi will boot automatically.

Is there a way to ship more than four at a time to the USA?
At $55 shipping per order, the limit of four really adds quite a bit to the cost of this item. I wouldn't mind ordering many more than that and patiently waiting for them to come over vía boat if that is an option, as long as it helped me save on the shipping costs.
Andrew Parmenter
  • Unfortunately not, the same regulations apply to both air and sea shipping methods.

Can it keep the Pi Running in case of temporary outages ?
sorry, not sure if this has already been mentioned, but i would want my pi to keep running. is that an option with this system please?
Andy
  • Yes, the PIco is designed to keep the Pi running in case of temporary outages. The included battery will provide ~ 10 - 15 minutes of backup power, after which the PIco would shut the Pi down. The PIco is set to default shut the Pi down after 60 seconds, but you can increase this time.

  • The PIco uses the following GPIOs to function - GPIO_GEN27 and GPIO_GEN22. As long as that board doesn't use those pins they would work fine together.

How much programming is required for this device to work?
I'm trying to keep the programming simple for non experienced people. Ideally, little to no programming would be best. I'm not sure if the programming is pre-installed or not.
Ronald Mcdowal
  • Only a few simple commands are required - https://github.com/modmypi/PiModules/wiki/UPS-PIco-Installation

No battery shipping option?
Due to the Li shipping restrictions, is there an option to purchase the board without the battery so it can be shipped to the USA or do you have a recommended USA distributor? I have not been able to find this board in the USA. Thanks!

  • We are currently in the process of getting this setup.

Is it compatible with PiRyte Mini ATX PSU?
I would like to attach a PiRyte Mini ATX PSU on top of this ups pico. https://www.tindie.com/products/tomtibbetts/piryte-mini-atx-psu-for-raspberry-pi/ Is it supported?
owen
  • This isn't a product we are familiar with and therfore can't guarentee compatibility. With that said, if the ATX board only supplies power via the GPIO and doesn't use the following GPIO pins, then it should work fine.

    GPIO 22
    GPIO 27

Battery Life vs Charging Voltage
Is there a way to decrease the charging voltage, to extend the battery life, as the battery will be at full charge continuously. One reviewer reported only 2 years life. I would like 3.7 charge max, which decreases capacity, but would extend battery life.
Gerald
  • No
