It's been a little over half a year since the launch of the last
Raspberry Pi, the 3 Model B+, but it's been a good 3 years since the
original 1 Model A+ was launched and a lot has changed in the Raspberry
what's new? The new Model A+
has seen a big upgrade from the last A+ to give it the same
processor as the Raspberry Pi 3 B+, which is a 64-Bit 1.4GHz Quad core
ARM Cortex 53 processor using the Broadcom BCM2837B0 chipset along with
the same onboard wireless LAN and Bluetooth capabilities as it's bigger
mechanical foot print is the same as the last Model A+ meaning it's perfect
for smaller projects which need the power of the 3 B+, but not the slightly
longer form factor. We can see the 3 A+ finding a good home with the
robot builds of next year's PiWars competition
, as the smaller size but
same processor pairing will work really well for competitors who are
pushed for space in their builds but need to keep the processor nippy.
two notable differences are 512MB memory, half that of the 3 B+, and
only one USB port. But after playing around with it for a little bit,
it's just as brilliant as the 3 B+.
The 3 A+ is available now to buy in our store, let us know in the comments
if you plan to place a one of your other Pi's with the 3 A+ and what you
plan to build with it!
